Originally today I had intended to blog about my German Shepard dog Buster.  You see he is truly a mouse trapped in a lion's body.  He stalks me (or shepard's me) around the house, and is scared of his own shadow, but we still love him.  This is definitely a case of he looks a lot tougher than he actually is. 

So it's gloomy, rainy, utterly yucky outside, and my motivation level has dropped to about less than zero.  I am just realizing that it is actually past noon and my accomplishments for the day can be summed up as non-existant.  So in an effort to motivate myself, I'm listening to some music than has some spunk and energy to it, and I'm setting down to write the blog that I had planned.

But first, maybe I should find a picture to go with it.   Now I find myself searching for said picture, going through folder after folder on my external drives, and it hits me.  Digital Files.  IMG_2209

I know that I'm not the only one that does this.  I have so many digital files of my kids, pets, places, things, vacations, and here's the thing they are all digital files.  Now this is not to say that I don't have actual hard copies, because I do.  My house is filled with portraits of my family, my kids, and my granddaughter.  But there are also so many now that I haven't printed for whatever reason.  Should I, oh yea definately, crazy things happen, hard drives break, my computer (knock on wood this doesn't happen) gets a virus and wipes my internal hard drive, CD's and DVD's can go bad.  Having that print may not be the end all be all as far as preserving that memory but it puts it in a place of prominence, in our homes, in our office, where we can SEE it.  Not tucked away in folder on the old hard drive never to be seen again.  It's a back up (if you have a computer, you have definately heard this phrase) for the print.

In the digital world we are living in, it is soooo easy to get wrapped up in the want of that digital file.  I hear it all the time, and I have made it an option in my wedding and portrait packages.   But what I encourage, and what I ask is this.  What are you going to do with it?  Is it just going to sit on that hard drive, or that CD on your desk and collect dust?  Too many times I have seen this with weddings, you get the CD of images with no actual prints and do nothing with it, until 10 years down the road you wonder where the time went and why you have no prints and wish that you had printed some of your wedding day.  I don't want to see that.  The digital image should enhance the experience of the print.  All of my wedding packages now include print credits and an album, a mobile album app, and an option for the digital file.  I want you to have those prints.  I want you to enjoy your images from your big day.  Every time you walk by that framed print I want you to be able to look at it and remember that day and the emotions that went along with it.  I don't want them to sit around and collect dust.

So now that I have slightly motivated myself, it's time to get some work done, and put my digital files in an album!!
